Secretly Canadian

Secretly Canadian is a US label based in Bloomington, Indiana. It was founded in 1996 by four individuals who are passionate about music. Originally known as Secretly Canadian Records, the label has established itself as a prominent player in the industry. In 2007, Secretly Canadian collaborated with another label to form a new entity called Jagjaguwar.

The label's first address was located at 1703 N. Maple St., Bloomington, until sometime in late 2000 or 2001. They then moved to their second address at 1021 S. Walnut St., Bloomington, which served as their headquarters until around 2004. Currently, Secretly Canadian can be found at their third and current address at 1499 W. 2nd St.

With a rich history and an impressive roster of artists, Secretly Canadian continues to make waves in the music industry. Their commitment to quality and passion for supporting talented musicians sets them apart from other labels.

John Lennon was a highly influential musician, singer, and songwriter who rose to fame as one of the founding members of the legendary band [The Beatles]. Born in Liverpool, England in 1940, Lennon's passion for music started at a young age. With his distinct vocals and innovative songwriting skills, he played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of popular music. Lennon's solo career after The Beatles disbanded showcased his versatility as an artist and his commitment to promoting peace and love through his music. His untimely death in 1980 left a lasting impact on the world, but his legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians.

If Two Virgins is the ecstatic first kiss shared between two of pop culture’s greatest lovers, then Life with the Lions is the sound of the pair validating their love as something impenetrable and timeless. It’s when we, the listener, begin to fully understand that the scope of their recording efforts was much more than a recording collaboration, and something closer to a performative documentary, a declaration of “Our life and our love is our art every nitty, gritty part of it.” The collection begins with a more straightforward at least in terms of explaining what it is piece of improvised music, edited down from live performance at Cambridge University’s Lady Mitchell Hall in March 1969. The entirety of Side B was recorded in a patient suite at London’s Queen Charlotte Hospital where Ono was admitted with pregnancy complications and ultimately lost a child, John Ono Lennon II. The album cover photo was taken in the suite, with Ono in her hospital bed and Lennon in a sleeping bag made up on the floor next to her, both of them looking exhausted from the process. This reissue also includes Ono’s Song for John and Mulberry, which did not appear on the original release.
