Asthmatic Kitty
Asthmatic Kitty was established in 1999 by a community of musicians in Holland, Michigan. Originally created as a platform for releasing their own material, the label has since expanded and now has offices in Lander, Wyoming, Indianapolis, Indiana and New York City. Today, Asthmatic Kitty is distributed through Secretly Canadian in collaboration with Sounds Familyre.
The unique name 'Asthmatic Kitty' originated from a veterinarian's reference to 'asthma kitties' during an examination of Sara, a stray cat that one of the label founders had rescued. This quirky name stuck and eventually became the identity of the label.
