Mick Ronson

Mick Ronson was a British multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and producer. Although he excelled in various instruments, he is best known for his exceptional guitar skills. From an early age, Ronson displayed a talent for music, mastering the piano, recorder, violin, and harmonium before eventually finding his passion in the guitar.

His musical journey began in 1963 when he joined his first band called The Mariners at the age of 17. This was followed by stints with The Crestas and The Voice before joining the soul band The Wanted. However, it wasn't until he moved back to Hull that his career truly took off.

In 1970, Ronson's life changed when he was invited to join David Bowie's backing band called The Hype. He made his debut with Bowie on the Peel Sessions recorded for BBC Radio 1. As part of this backing band turned independent artists themselves, Ronson not only showcased his instrumental prowess but also contributed to arranging and producing music for other artists.

After parting ways with Bowie in 1973, Mick Ronson focused on his solo work and producing projects. He briefly joined Mott The Hoople and formed a band named The Hunter Ronson Band alongside Ian Hunter. Despite passing away in London in 1993, Mick Ronson remains a legendary figure within the music industry and is buried in Eastern Cemetery in his hometown of Kingston Upon Hull.
