Mott The Hoople was a British rock band that was active from 1969 until 1974, with occasional reunions starting in 2009. The classic era of the band included members Ian Hunter on vocals and guitar, Mick Ralphs on guitar, Verden Allen on keyboards, Peter "Overend" Watts on bass, and Dale "Buffin" Griffin on drums.
After Ian Hunter left in 1974, two follow-on bands were formed: one from 1974 to 1976 and another from 1977 to 1980. During the period of 1974-76, releases without Hunter are credited to [a2999630]. Additionally, an unofficial or "fake" band recorded Mott The Hoople tracks around 1996/7 under [a6998971].
Mott The Hoople's music is often associated with artists such as Mick Ronson, Marc Bolan, Faces, Slade, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, T. Rex, Dr. Feelgood, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Humble Pie and more. With their influential sound and iconic lineup during their prime years of activity in the early '70s.

Live at Hammersmith 1973 is probably the best live recording in Mott the Hoople’s archive. The group was riding on the crest of a wave at the time, parading their hit singles All the Young Dudes and Roll Away the Stone, and promoting their critically acclaimed Top 10 album, Mott.

Mott the Hoople played two shows at the Hammersmith Odeon on 14th December 1973 and the second set became famous in rock folklore when theatre staff and stewards grappled with invading fans, while Mott played on and sought to defy the venue’s “curfew.” 

Released following acclaimed 2018 and 2019 Mott reunion concerts, this enhanced vinyl captures the fire and brimstone of the band’s 1973 show and their battling finale, as they conclude a memorable night with a scorching version of Walkin’ with a Mountain. Featuring sparkling renditions of Sweet Jane, Sucker and Mo’s memorable, 15 minute Deadly Medley, the passion, the power and the glory are all here - six of the nine cuts appearing on vinyl for the first time.
