My Dying Bride is a British doom band that was formed in 1990. Originally starting out as a slower-than-usual death metal act, the band quickly became known for their unique blend of doom metal, incorporating elements of death and black metal. Their first recording, "Towards The Sinister," led to their debut EP "Symphonaire Infernus Et Spera Empyrium" and their first full-length album "As the Flower Withers." The success of these releases paved the way for further experimentation with different musical styles on albums like "Turn Loose The Swans" and "The Angel And The Dark River."

Despite achieving commercial success, My Dying Bride never stopped pushing boundaries and exploring new sounds. This can be heard on albums like "34.788%...Complete," which showcased their willingness to innovate within their own original style. Over the years, they have influenced many other bands and even spawned a subgenre.

The band has seen some lineup changes throughout its history, including replacements due to pregnancy and departures. However, this has not hindered their ability to create powerful music. With Calvin Robertshaw rejoining the band after 15 years and Shaun Macgowan stepping in as a replacement member, My Dying Bride continues to captivate audiences with their distinctive sound.

Peaceville is an English label founded by Paul Halmshaw, also known as Hammy, in 1987. The label primarily focuses on metal music and has gained a reputation for its high-quality releases. In 2000, Peaceville was sold to Snapper Music but continues to thrive under their ownership.

Throughout its history, Peaceville has used various catalog number formats to distinguish different types of releases. From 1987 to 1995, the label used "VILE ### T" for 12-inch singles, maxis, and EPs; "VILE ###" for LPs; and "VILE ### P" for picture LPs. From 1987 to 2002, CD releases were labeled as "CDVILE### / VILE ### CD," while MCDs/singles/EPs were labeled as "CDMVILE### / VILE ### TCD." Limited CDs were marked with "CDXVILE###."

In later years, Peaceville introduced new catalog number formats such as "CC#" for the Collectors Club series of 7-inch records in 1993-1994. ‘Towards the Sinister’ comes including full lyrics and rare band photos from their formative years. The release features specially reconstructed artwork from the original. Having become initially aware of each other via the local pub scene of West Yorkshire and through various early band associations and acquaintances, Andrew Craighan, Aaron Stainthorpe, Calvin Robertshaw and Rick Miah came together to form My Dying Bride in mid-1990 after discovering a shared interest in the darker side of metal, and set foot on the forlorn path of what was to lead them to the global heights of the doom genre. ‘Towards the Sinister’ was My Dying Bride’s first professional recording to be put to tape, carried out at Revolver Studios in November 1990. The 4 tracks were each alternately crafted work of early death/doom, sculpted with a dark and more atmospheric edge than most of the bands at the me. Re-recorded versions of the tracks originally featured on ‘Towards the Sinister’ subsequently went on to be included on the ‘Symphonaire...’ EP, plus the debut album, ‘As the Flower Withers’, in 1992.
