Back in stock. Only 20 years old, olafur arnalds hails from the suburban icelandic town, mosfellsbr, just a few kilometers outside reykjavk. combining classical instrumentation with a raw indie aesthetic, his music fits into the erased tapes catalogue like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. his debut album 'eulogy for evolution' takes the listener on a journey, representing different periods in life, from birth to death. he delicately sculptures each of his own epic, string-laden compositions from beginning to completion. the record has been highly praised by the media and music fans in iceland and has already created quite a buzz around europe and even japan. besides his solo project, lafur also plays drums in two hardcore bands. he recently supported american indie-rock band cursive (saddle creek) on a german tour. despite the vast musical differences of the two bands, the tour was successful, and the audiences really enjoyed the unexpected, slow building and hauntingly melodic chamber music. there are also plans for a uk tour with fellow icelanders mm. this release introduces erased tapes' fusion of traditional and contemporary formats, with a free download code which allows the purchaser of the vinyl to be able to get the whole album digitally for no extra cost. beautifully presented artwork typifies all the releases - creating a unique platform for the label roster and its cinematic music on a giant scale.
