On The Rise: CVC

Top tip from Rough Trade Shops. Life in Church Village is laid back. Situated at the top of a hill in the Welsh Valleys around 10 miles north of Cardiff, it keeps things simple: there are a couple of rugby pitches, a few pubs all within walking distance of one another and that’s about it. Until now. CVC, or Church Village Collective in full, named their band after the place they come from and, if they have it their way, will soon bring international renown to their hometown.

There are no add-ons with this band, no gimmicks. They grew up on The Beatles, Neil Young and The Beach Boys, and make rich, melodic music steeped in rock history. The group formed in 2019, mainly “as a jam band,” says Orsi, and the psychedelic side of their formative sound still lingers, there’s the occasional hint of chaos behind the pristine licks. But it’s the three-part harmonies that stand out most: Orsi, Bassey and Bradfield are able to conjure moods of any palette.

The world’s first taste of CVC is ‘Docking The Pay’ which was recorded along with a whole raft of other songs over four sun-baked weeks in Bradfield’s living room in 2020 while the country was in lockdown. Thorne says ‘ Docking The Pay’ is just full blown energy. It’s a good way to introduce the band and make a name for ourselves straight away.”

CVC specialise in fat riffs, lush three part harmonies, and tight beats, all tied together with outfits you could expect to see at the launch party for Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. It's instantly catchy and has a timeless 60's meets 70's sound. This is big news.
