American indie/folk singer/songwriter and guitarist. His solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, [l188419] Gaining a local cult following in Seattle, he was brought to the attention of Sub Pop Records by Sunny Day Real Estate singer [a=Jeremy Enigk].

His musical career is marked by periods of close collaboration with various musicians. Until about "I break chairs" his work was closely linked to [a=Pedro The Lion] and [a=David Bazan]. From then until "Caught In The Trees", [a=Eric Fischer] became his companion as a musician and producer. The most significant change in sound came when he met  the late [a=Richard Swift (2)], with whom he collaborated from "St. Bartlett" to "Visions Of Us On The Land."Since "The Horizon Just Laughed" [a=Josh Gordon] has been his new musical partner.

Other frequent contributors were the members of [a=Gathered In Song], [a=Rosie Thomas] and [a387255].

His full-length albums have been released on [l77343], [l35538], [l44370] and [l363414]. In 2021 he founded [l=Maraqopa Records]. From 2004 to 2007 he also co-ran  [l77015].

Secretly Canadian is a US label based in Bloomington, Indiana. It was founded in 1996 by four individuals who are passionate about music. Originally known as Secretly Canadian Records, the label has established itself as a prominent player in the industry. In 2007, Secretly Canadian collaborated with another label to form a new entity called Jagjaguwar.

The label's first address was located at 1703 N. Maple St., Bloomington, until sometime in late 2000 or 2001. They then moved to their second address at 1021 S. Walnut St., Bloomington, which served as their headquarters until around 2004. Currently, Secretly Canadian can be found at their third and current address at 1499 W. 2nd St.

With a rich history and an impressive roster of artists, Secretly Canadian continues to make waves in the music industry. Their commitment to quality and passion for supporting talented musicians sets them apart from other labels.

Providing the ideal entry point for neophytes and an intoxicating aural high for the faithful, Damien Jurado's new opus extends the hot streak ignited by 2012's 'Maraqopa' and its 2014 follow-up 'Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son'. Cut once again with label mate and super producer Richard Swift at the latter's National Freedom recording facility in rural Oregon, 'Visions of Us On The Land', on Secretly Canadian, completes the tale of an individual who has had to disappear from society in order to discover some universal truths. 'Visions of Us On The Land' journeys further into the subconscious mind, a symbolic road trip spotlighting the people and towns that our central figure and his travelling companion, Silver Katherine, encounter upon leaving the commune. Hence the capitalized track titles, alluding to real American locations refracted through one's third eye in the rear view mirror. Like all great art, it's about life and death and love and freedom. A sonic map with no set destination, revealing more with each ride.
