Porcupine Tree is an English progressive rock band that was founded in 1987 by Steven Wilson. Originally starting as a solo project, the band evolved into a full lineup in 1993 with the addition of Colin Edwin, Chris Maitland, and Richard Barbieri. After going on hiatus in 2010, Porcupine Tree made their official return in November 2021 as a three-piece lineup consisting of Wilson, Barbieri, and Gavin Harrison. They released their new single "Harridan" and are set to release their eleventh studio album Closure / Continuation in June 2022.

The current lineup includes Steven Wilson on vocals, guitar, bass, and keyboards; Richard Barbieri on keyboards and synthesizers; and Gavin Harrison on drums and percussion. Former members include Chris Maitland on drums and Colin Edwin on bass. The touring members for the band currently include Randy McStine on guitar and backing vocals, Nathan Navarro on bass, and John Wesley on guitar and backing vocals during their earlier years.

With a rich history spanning over three decades, Porcupine Tree has established themselves as influential figures within the progressive rock genre. Their unique sound combines elements of rock with intricate melodies and thought-provoking lyrics. Fans can look forward to experiencing their highly anticipated new album after a long-awaited return from hiatus.

In Absentia was the band’s seventh studio album, first released in 2002, and was the first in a run of 3 albums that for many represent the pinnacle of the band’s artistic achievements. It was something of a breakthrough for the band, selling three times more than previous releases. Following on from 2000’s Lightbulb Sun it had a distinctly heavier tone, partly due to the addition of legendary drummer Gavin Harrison, and was also their first for major label Lava / Atlantic Records. In Absentia features many of Porcupine Tree’s most loved songs including Trains, The Sound of Muzak and Blackest Eyes. While not a formal concept album, many of the songs have common themes related to serial killers, youthful innocence gone wrong, and observations of the modern world, setting a template for many of Wilson’s future songs.
