Artist, DJ, photographer, singer-songwriter Rahill is the latest signing to Big Dada, a label run by Black, POC and Minority Ethnic people for Black, POC and Minority Ethnic artists. Her new album Flowers At Your Feet documents Rahill’s efflorescence as a singer- songwriter, while retaining maturity, humility, and intimacy. A first generation Iranian-American, Rahill grew up in Michigan while often spending summers in Iran, and her love for her heritage brings a deep passion and intimacy to her creative work. Throughout her music she uses sound recordings of her relatives singing and speaking in Farsi, taking inspiration from genres like trip hop, classic pop and jazz. Her music is a rich contribution to today’s creative landscape and brings needed visibility to Iranian, Muslim and Middle Eastern culture.

Flowers At Your Feet is made up of artefacts lovingly culled from Rahill’s private cosmogony: field recordings, audio from home movies, references to film and poetry, allusions to sports legends. Lead single, “I Smile for E”, a paean to family and memory, features a recording of a beloved late aunt’s singing melded seamlessly into the song’s architecture. Presented without overt explanation, these sonic novelties are nevertheless intuitively, universally familiar, prompting the listener to begin to construct their very own memory palace. Recorded in phases during the Covid pandemic, the LP constitutes a close collaboration between Rahill and producer, Alex Epton, who immediately identified the strength and potential of Rahill’s pre-existing solo compositions. Among the extensive list of talented players who have contributed their time and talent to Flowers At Your Feet, “Fables” features no less than art-pop revolutionary Beck, on vocals and as a producer.
