Sampa The Great is a Zambian hip-hop MC, singer, songwriter, and poet. Born in 1993 in Ndola, Zambia and raised in Botswana, she has been based in Sydney, Australia since 2013 before relocating to Melbourne in 2018. Her debut solo album, The Return (September 2019), reached No.12 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Notably, her single 'Final Form' won Best Hip Hop Release the following year. Sampa's music is influenced by her Bemba and Tumbuka heritage and she comes from a talented family with her sister also being a recording artist.

Before her critically acclaimed album The Return (Ninja Tune), equal parts songwriter, poet, singer and lyricist Sampa The Great made her mixtape debut on Big Dada with Birds And The BEE9. The mixtape won the Australian equivalent of The Mercury Prize (The Australian Music Prize) and features production from Slowthai producer Kwes Darko and Silentjay (who produced the lion’s share of ‘The Return’).

Five years on it’s been repressed on yellow and orange splatter vinyl and a liner note from Sampa The Great. Recommended if you like: Little Simz, SAULT, Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, Hiatus Kaiyote, Anderson .Paak, Sons of Kemet and Arlo Parks.
