In March 2003 Steven Wilson released Cover Version, a 2 track CD single which was limited to 3,000 copies. Despite an illustrious career fronting a number of acts, including Porcupine Tree and No-Man, and recording under various guises (IEM, Bass Communion), this was the first piece to be released under his own name. The single was made up of one cover version along with one new, self-written composition. This proved to be the first of a series of Cover Version releases as over the next few years he released a further five singles. The artists that he covered reflect the diverse range of music that influences him, taking in tracks by Alanis Morissette, Abba, The Cure, Momus, Prince and Donovan. Each of the CD singles were limited to 3,000 copies, with the final release (Cover Version VI) coming in a special box to house all six CDS, with artwork designed by Carl Glover and a booklet of portraits of Steven by Hajo Mueller. There was also an even more limited run (500 copies) of 7" singles but as Wilson's popularity has grown, both through his work with Porcupine Tree and through his burgeoning solo career, these long sold-out releases have become much sought-after by collectors. This release brings together all 12 tracks on one vinyl release for the first time. Pressed on double heavyweight (180g) vinyl, the tracks provide a fascinating insight into both Wilson's musical taste and his development as a solo artist. The artwork has been 'remixed' from the box design by Carl Glover.
