Factory Benelux is the Belgian counterpart of Factory Records, established in Brussels in 1980 by journalists Michel Duval and Annik Honoré. The label operated under the umbrella of Les Disques Du Crépuscule until 1988. It initially released singles by A Certain Ratio, Durutti Column, and Section 25, which were spare recordings donated by Factory Records. Over the next few years, Factory Benelux exclusively released music from New Order, Crispy Ambulance, The Names, Minny Pops, Cabaret Voltaire, Crawling Chaos, Stockholm Monsters, and The Wake. In addition to pioneering dance singles by Quando Quango and 52nd Street.

Between 1983 and 1986, Factory Benelux mainly focused on European editions of regular Factory releases. This period also saw production work by members of New Order under the name Be Music for artists like Life, Nyam Nyam, Surprize,and Lavolta Lakota. Notably during this time were two complete albums by The Durutti Column: Short Stories for Pauline and Circuses and Bread.

The label stopped releasing new material in 1988 but retained its name for early CD reissues through Crépuscule in the early '90s. In 2012,FBN was revived with James Nice at the helm who previously worked at Crépuscule during the late '80s.The revived F

The Durutti Column is an iconic English music project founded in 1978 by Anthony H. Wilson and Alan Erasmus in Manchester, England. However, it quickly evolved into a solo endeavor led by Vini Reilly. The project was signed to Tony Wilson's renowned label Factory from 1978 to 1992.
With their unique blend of post-punk, new wave, and experimental sounds, The Durutti Column has left an indelible mark on the music scene. Led by the talented Vini Reilly, the project has consistently pushed boundaries and defied genre conventions throughout its extensive career.

Record Store Day is an annual event inaugurated in 2007 to "celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store". Held on one Saturday every April and every Black Friday in November, the day brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores around the world.

Factory Benelux presents the very first vinyl edition of the only soundtrack album recorded by The Durutti Column, the Factory Records ensemble fronted by lauded guitarist and composer Vini Reilly. A limited edition of 1000 copies on 180gm black vinyl have been pressed for Record Store Day 2023. Treatise on the Steppenwolf is a soundtrack to the performance piece of the same name by experimental theatre group 12 Stars, written and directed by Gerard McInulty (of fellow Factory band The Wake), first staged in Glasgow in May 2003. Freely adapted from the celebrated counter-culture novel by Hermann Hesse, the performance is a portrait a divided character in an ongoing state of conflict. ‘Steppenwolf was something I’d read recently and when we approached Durutti Column with the idea it turned out they were interested too,’ explained McInulty. ‘People have described their music as ambient, although that’s a description they don’t care much for. It’s certainly atmospheric and there’s something about their sunny-sounding guitar that seemed appropriate to a book that, although published in 1927, didn’t become popular in America until the 1960s.’ This expanded vinyl edition combines the studio recordings of the 12 pieces performed live by The Durutti Column during the Glasgow run, along with 3 long and previously unreleased tracks from the Human Avatars art installation at Manchester MOSI in 2005. Newly mastered for vinyl by Peter Beckman at TechnologyWorks, this limited Record Store Day edition also features new gatefold artwork by Howard Wakefield.
