Fat Possum Records is a label that was established in 1991 with the sole purpose of recording R.L. Burnside. Over time, it evolved into a mission to discover and record the last remaining original bluesmen before they passed away. Despite facing various challenges such as difficult personalities, limited songs, and a raw sound that didn't fit the mainstream blues market, these artists possessed immense talent and truly lived the blues.

In recent years, Fat Possum has expanded its catalog to include newer indie blues rock bands alongside their traditional offerings.

The Jim Carroll Band was an American punk rock band formed in the late 1970s. Led by singer and songwriter Jim Carroll, the band gained popularity for their energetic live performances and raw, edgy sound.
Influenced by artists such as Richard Hell, Johnny Thunders, and The New York Dolls, The Jim Carroll Band was part of the vibrant punk scene in New York City. Their music captured the rebellious spirit of the era, with lyrics that explored themes of youth, urban life, and personal struggles.
With a lineup that included talented musicians like Steve Linsley on bass, Wayne Woods on drums, Terrell Winn on guitar, and Brian Linsley on guitar, The Jim Carroll Band released several critically acclaimed albums. Their debut album "Catholic Boy" featured the iconic track "People Who Died," which became a cult classic.

Catholic Boy (1980) is the debut album by The Jim Carroll Band, led by Jim Carroll who is notable for publishing the 1978 memoir The Basketball Diaries, and poetry collections including Living at the Movies. It spawned two FM hits, It's Too Late and People Who Died (about friends of the singer who died before their time). The front cover photograph was taken by Annie Leibovitz.
