Psychic Lemon describe their sound as a blend of psych, space rock and krautrock. The band rehearse and record in a studio in the back of a small garden in Cambridge. The band’s influences are broad, but choice artists include Hawkwind, Goat and Amon Düül II. Just one month after the release of their first album, Psychic Lemon were condensed from a four-piece band down to three. The band’s reaction to this has been to create more texture, incorporating layers of drones, percussion and extensive guitar effects, and to let songs evolve naturally from extended jams. On their new album, Frequency Rhythm Distortion Delay, their first on Tonzonen Records, the music has moved even further from typical song structures, mostly eschewing vocals in favour of a widescreen soundscape of guitar effects, distorted bass and drums.
