Publisher of the Month
Fitzcarraldo Editions is a London-based publishing house focusing on ambitious, imaginative and innovative writing. Founded in 2014, the press publishes books that explore and expand formal possibilities and that tackle subjects and themes that are relevant to the world we live in.
Fitzcarraldo Editions has published twenty-eight books to date, thirteen of them in translation – from French, German, Russian, Spanish and Polish. These include Second-hand Time by Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Svetlana Alexievich; and Mathias Enard's Compass which won the 2015 Prix Goncourt in France, and was shortlisted for the 2017 Man Booker International Prize.
Within the context of British literary publishing, Fitzcarraldo Editions has become renowned for its minimalist design aesthetic, with identical typographical designs for the fiction and essay series.
Fitzcarraldo Editions aims to contribute to the literary culture by publishing books they feel are important – they feel strongly that as a publishing house they have a duty to fight against a difficult cultural climate.
Fitzcarraldo Editions is 'probably the most exciting publishing house in the UK right now’. The New Statesman, 2016
