Shakti

Shakti is a pioneering group that blends Indian music with jazz, creating a unique acoustic fusion sound. Formed in the mid-1970s, the original band included renowned musicians such as John McLaughlin, L. Shankar, Zakir Hussain, R. Raghavan, and T. H. "Vikku" Vinayakram. They not only merged Western and Indian music but also combined the Hindustani and Carnatic music traditions. After a hiatus, Shakti returned in 2023 with a new lineup featuring McLaughlin, Hussain, Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, and Shankar Mahadevan.
