The Five Americans

The Five Americans were a 1960's American garage rock band, most famous for the song "Western Union". Originally known as The Mutineers, they hailed from Durant, Oklahoma but later settled in Dallas, Texas. During their active years from 1965 to 1971, they released four albums and twenty-two singles. Despite gaining moderate success with their music, the band decided to disband in 1971 due to exhaustion from constant touring.

The original group members of *The Five Americans* included Mike Rabon, John Durrill, Norm Ezell, Jim Grant, and Jimmy Wright. Their sound was influenced by other notable bands of the era such as *The Standells*, *The Knickerbockers*, and *The Remains*. They were part of a vibrant music scene that also featured acts like *Paul Revere & The Raiders* and *The Music Machine*.

Although their time together was relatively short-lived compared to some of their contemporaries, The Five Americans left an indelible mark on the garage rock genre. With their catchy tunes and energetic performances, they continue to be celebrated among fans of this influential period in music history.
