The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, OK, USA. The band currently consists of Wayne Coyne (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steven Drozd (guitars, keyboards, bass, vocals), Derek Brown (keyboards, guitars, percussion), Matt Duckworth Kirksey (drums, percussion, keyboards) and Nicholas Ley (percussion, drums).

With a career spanning over three decades and numerous critically acclaimed albums under their belt, The Flaming Lips have become one of the most influential and innovative bands in the alternative music scene. Known for their experimental soundscapes and eccentric stage performances that often include elaborate costumes and props.

Their unique blend of psychedelic rock with elements of pop and electronic music has garnered them a dedicated fan base worldwide. From their early releases like "The Soft Bulletin" to more recent albums such as "Oczy Mlody," The Flaming Lips continue to push boundaries and defy expectations with their boundary-pushing music.

Warner Bros. Records, founded in 1958 by Jack Warner, started as a soundtrack factory for Warner Bros. movie studios. Over the years, it has evolved into a renowned label with subsidiary labels like Reprise Records, Sire Records, Maverick Records, Warner Nashville, Warner Jazz, Warner Western, and Word Label Group. With more than 60 years of experience in the industry and an impressive roster of artists across various genres, Warner Bros. has become a leading name in the music world.

The label has used several pressing facilities including *Capitol Records* and *Columbia Pressings*. Throughout its history, Warner Bros. has had different label designs for mono LPs and stereo LPs. From grey labels with black WB Shield to gold labels with Vitaphonic Long Play or Stereo wording at the bottom; from green labels featuring the W7 logo to palm trees labels without any address mentioned; and finally transitioning to tan labels with narrow horizontal lines before settling on white labels with large WB shield and ghosted gray shields floating in the background since 1983.

To determine first pressings of US LPs on this label, collectors can look out for specific details such as color variations on the label design or Saul Bass W logo on sleeves introduced after 1975. The presence or absence of certain addresses on palm trees labels also helps identify different pressings over time.

The Soft Bulletin Companion is a famous promo featuring outtakes, alternate mixes, and radio sessions from the era. It is widely circulated among the fan community.

Following the success of The Flaming Lips breakthrough album The Soft Bulletin in 1999, there was a demand for outtakes and other related non-album tracks by fans of the band at radio and in the media. To satisfy this demand Scott Booker, the band’s long-time manager, compiled a playlist and burned home-made CDs of rare and interesting tracks which were selectively distributed by Scott and Warner Records.

The 13-track compilation featured outtakes from The Soft Bulletin, including unreleased songs, single b-sides from around the world, alternate mixes and a cover version. It also notably included stereo versions of tracks from Zaireeka – the legendary 4-CD album preceding The Soft Bulletin that required 4 separate audio systems for playback so the consumer could experience the full album.
