The Future Sound Of London

The Future Sound Of London is a British duo who met in the 1980s in Manchester. Their highly influential discography showcases their diverse range of influences, including acid house, hardcore techno, ambient, krautrock, '60s psychedelica, and more. Previously known as Humanoid, Dougans had a UK Top 10 hit. Together as FSOL, they achieved major crossover success. Their early career was dancefloor-friendly before transitioning into deeper, more album-oriented music. They released a double-disc set spanning breakbeat-flavored ambience and added hip-hop and trip-hop elements to their mix of influences. They also compiled music from their radio broadcasts and dropped off the radar after a mix release in 1997.

After a four-year hiatus filled with rumors of insanity and drug addiction (which were actually caused by mercury poisoning), The Future Sound Of London returned with concept remix albums and full-length releases under different aliases. In 2007, they went independent and launched FSOLDigital.com where they released unreleased material from various aliases as well as old and new material.

Their most anticipated album in ambient history was released after thirteen years since its recording. They continued to release volumes of Environments series which blended reproduced old material with new neoclassical compositions. By 2014, all recorded material was brand new.
