Doctor Bird is a music label that was founded in the UK by Graeme Goodall, an Australian sound engineer and original shareholder of Island Records. The label was revived by Trojan Records in 1970 for three releases before being relaunched in 2017 as a division of Cherry Red Records. Doctor Bird specializes in vintage Jamaican sounds licensed from the catalogue of Trojan Records.
Graeme Goodall played a significant role in the Jamaican music scene, engineering sessions at various studios and producing countless recordings during the ska era. He also formed other labels such as Pyramid Records and Attack to promote reggae music. Despite relocating to Atlanta, Georgia in the 1970s, Goodall continued his involvement with music until his passing in 2014.
Today, Doctor Bird continues to bring Jamaican rocksteady and other vintage sounds to music enthusiasts worldwide through their curated selection of releases. With its rich history and dedication to preserving iconic Jamaican music, Doctor Bird remains a respected authority on this genre.

The Upsetters is a studio band formed in 1968 for the Upsetter label. Led by Lee Perry, they had three line-ups throughout their career. The first line-up, also known as Gladdy's All-Stars, recorded hits like "Man from MI5" and "Return of Django". In 1969, Perry collaborated with another band called The Hippy Boys for a European tour. After working closely with The Wailers until 1971, the Barrett brothers joined Bob Marley. From 1972 onwards, The Upsetters became a floating band with ever-changing members. During the Black Ark era (1974-1979), Boris Gardiner and Earl "Chinna" Smith were part of the core group.
Throughout their existence from 1968 to 1986, The Upsetters worked with various talented musicians including Aston "Family Man" Barrett on bass and Carlton Barrett on drums. They also collaborated with notable keyboardists such as Glen Adams and Winston Wright. Guitarists like Alva Lewis and Earl "Chinna" Smith added their unique touch to the band's sound while saxophonist Tommy McCook and horn players Vin Gordon and Bobby Ellis brought soulful melodies to their music.
With vocals provided by Lee Perry himself along with Dave Barker, Leo Graham, Max Romeo, and Jah Lion at different times, The Upsetters created an impressive discography that showcased their versatility across genres like

A year after embarking on a career as an independent producer in 1968, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry hit the big time when the mesmeric sax-led rock steady instrumental, Return Of Django made number 5 in the UK charts. Soon after, Trojan released a hugely popular collection of the producer’s finest instrumentals to date, suitably titled after the best-selling single. Perry remained at the cutting edge of the reggae scene throughout the months that immediately followed, with tracks by the Upsetters (essentially the name given any set of musicians employed for his recording sessions) proving particularly popular among both Jamaican and British music fans. In response, Trojan issued a second Spaghetti Western theme instrumental-based album comprising the enigmatic Jamaican’s work which further demonstrated his increasingly bold and innovative approach to music making. Now, almost 50 years after the original release of these historically important long-players, they have been brought together to form this immensely fascinating and hugely enjoyable CD collection. Annotated by Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry biographer, David Katz, this is a must for all fans of both the producer and vintage reggae sounds.
