Woody Guthrie

American singer-songwriter and guitarist, Woody Guthrie, is known for his extensive musical legacy. He composed hundreds of political, traditional, and children's songs, as well as ballads and improvised works.

Born on July 14, 1912 in Okemah, Oklahoma, Guthrie passed away on October 3, 1967 at Creedmoor State Hospital in Queens, New York. He was the older brother of Mary Jo Guthrie-Edgmon. During his second marriage to Marjorie Guthrie from 1945 to 1953, they had four children together: Cathy Ann (1943-1947), Arlo Guthrie, Joady Guthrie, and Nora Canoni. His grandchildren include Abe Guthrie, Sarah Lee Guthrie, Cathy Greenblatt Lasker (Arlo's children), Anna Canoni (Nora's daughter), and Cole Quest Rotante.

Guthrie's contributions were recognized by various institutions. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 and the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 under the category "Early Influence."
