Herbie Mann

Herbie Mann was an American jazz flutist, tenor saxophonist, clarinetist, and bass clarinetist. He was born on April 16, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York and passed away on July 01, 2003 in Pecos, New Mexico. Throughout his career, Herbie explored various styles of music including latin jazz, reggae, and disco. He even established two record labels - Embryo Records from 1969 to 1977 and Kokopelli Records in the mid-'90s.

In the early days of disco, Herbie made a name for himself with his funky instrumental cover of LTG Exchange's "Waterbed". This track featured a great bassline that became popular in the UK disco scene. Another notable disco recording by Herbie was his cover of Celi Bee's "Superman" theme which reached #26 on the US Billboard charts. Collaborating with New York disco producer Patrick Adams, they also wrote the jazz-funk classic "Etagui".
