Max Roach

Max Roach was an American jazz drummer, bandleader, and artist. He was born on January 10, 1924 in Newland, Pasquotank County, North Carolina and passed away on August 16, 2007 in Manhattan, New York City at the age of 83. Roach was married to singer Abbey Lincoln and their daughter was a talented viola player.

Roach is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished jazz drummers and percussionists of his time. Throughout his career, he collaborated with legendary jazz musicians such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Sonny Rollins.
