Cannonball Adderley

Julian "Cannonball" Adderley was an American jazz saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and producer. Born on September 15, 1928 in Tampa, Florida, USA, he had a rambunctious attitude towards life but was incredibly prolific as a musician. With hundreds of releases to his name, Adderley worked with various jazz groups and recorded his own compositions with different ensembles.

Adderley's talent extended beyond himself; he was the brother of jazz cornet/trumpet player Nat Adderley and the uncle of jazz keyboardist Nat Adderley Jr. His influence can be heard in the music of similar artists such as Dexter Gordon, The Cannonball Adderley Quintet, Oliver Nelson, Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Rollins, Kenny Dorham, Sonny Stitt, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Joe Henderson, Sonny Clark, Clifford Brown, Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Jackie McLean, Lee Konitz, Bud Powell, Art Pepper, Lou Donaldson,and Benny Golson.
