A Bowery Presents Event
Kat Wright, whose voice is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced, has been described as “a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse”. Add to that voice enough stage presence to tame lions, and the combination of feline femininity proves immediately enchanting. There’s soul flowing in and out of her rock ‘n’ roll with a serpentine seduction. Some of soul music’s sweet, grand dames belt, shout, seethe, and succumb, while Wright sings gently like a heartache’s apology. It’s funky in spots and beautiful all over. And it hurts a little … like it should.
“Frighteningly good.” -Boston Public Radio
“…jumped right off the screen in their Tiny Desk contest entry.” -NPR Music
“Her smooth and serene sounding voice gives any man the chills; kind of like the capabilities Grace Potter and Susan Tedeschi possess…” -Cider Mag
“…their shows are love and happiness. Be prepared to be blown away by Wright’s voice. I certainly was!”
-Portland Press Herald
“Gritty, powerful and sultry…” -Next2Shine.com
Joanna Teters is carving a place for herself in the hearts and minds of today’s music lovers with original, forward-thinking, new-school soul.
Increasingly recognized for her ability to switch effortlessly from lush, deeply sultry tones to rugged reggae and blues, Teters’ serves her audiences with playful and energetic yet poised performances of both original compositions and covers. After many formative years in the mountains of upstate New York, she then went on to pursue her degree at Berklee College of Music where she began to develop her craft. She now resides in Brooklyn, NY. She is joined on stage by her musical team bassist Ben Carr (Rosendale, NY), guitarist Ted Morcaldi (North Haven, CT), drummer Zane West (Brewster, NY) and pianist/saxophonist Jason Fitch (Wallingford.)
A caravan of musical gypsies, Hide & Seek has created a harmonious fusion of rock, blues, soul, and americana. Ranging from whimsically flirtatious to serious social commentary, the lyrics sit atop evocative melodies sung by chief songwriter Alex Newman (vox / guitar).
Sprinkling in touches of show-tunes, Adam Spiegel (keys) also compliments the singers with his own broad vocal range. The rhythm section - TIm Shortle (drums) and Ryan Metosky (bass) - pull from jazz and jam influences to create moods that are both haunting and foot-stompingly fun. Rounding out the unique sound is Tony DePiano (lead guitar) who conjures up the spirit of Americana with meaty guitar tones reminiscent of CCR and Led Zeppelin.
Always sporting a crowd that is pouring over with merriment, Hide & Seek is an act to be appreciated by all music lovers, with a beer or whiskey in hand.
