Gilbert O'Sullivan

Gilbert O’Sullivan is an Irish singer-songwriter who was born on December 1, 1946 in Waterford, Ireland. At the age of 11, he moved with his family to Swindon, England where he began playing guitar, piano and drums. After finishing Swindon Art College, Gilbert relocated to London in 1967 to pursue his musical career. He released his first singles that year and slowly gained success.

Throughout his career, Gilbert O’Sullivan has achieved significant recognition for his songwriting abilities. He received three Ivor Novello Awards, including Songwriter of the Year in 1973. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in establishing the practice of sample clearance after successfully suing rapper [artist] in 1991 for unauthorized use of a part of Gilbert’s hit song "Alone Again (Naturally)".

In terms of chart success, Gilbert O’Sullivan has had a remarkable career. Eleven of his albums have charted in the UK Top 100 with four reaching the Top 10 and one album even reaching No.1 on the charts in January 1973. His albums have collectively spent over 200 weeks on the UK music charts.

When it comes to single and EP releases, Gilbert has had sixteen songs charting in the UK music charts. Seven of these songs reached positions within the Top 10 with two songs claiming the No.1 spot
