From Lucinda Black Bearfrontman Christian Gibbs comes a more experimental psychedelic and predominantly instrumental full length. A limited pressing of 200 copies on Green Vinyl, "The Shiny Hostel" vacillates between art-rock indulgent eight minute guitar cacophonies reminiscent of God Speed You Black Emperor with healthy doses of ambient open tunings and synths hinting of a John Fahey / Flaming Lipscollaboration ( if ever one existed).
Recorded mostly in the back woods of the Western Catskills by Gibbs (aka C. Gibbs, Lucinda Black Bear , Foetus) the band tracks are equally potent with contributions from Tim Kuhl on drums (Sean Lennon, Margaret Glaspy),Matt Brandau (bass) and Philip Sterk (pedal steel). "Hemoglobin" and " Decline in U.S. Civics" are standouts but "Cold Damn Truth" stands alone in its shimmering ecstasy of ethereal guitars and vocals hinting of "Bowie and Boomtown Rats."-Odd Nugget.
