Johnnie Taylor

Johnnie Taylor was a gospel, R&B, and soul singer who made a significant impact on the music industry. Born on May 5, 1934 in Crawfordsville, Arkansas, he began his career as a member of The Highway QC's before joining The Soul Stirrers as their lead vocalist. In the early 1960s, Taylor embarked on a successful solo career at SAR Records and later at Stax label where he produced several hits including "Who's Making Love" in 1968.

Despite facing challenges due to the bankruptcy of Stax in 1976, Taylor continued to thrive and signed with Columbia Records where he achieved his biggest hit with "Disco Lady" in 1976. This single became the first ever to receive a platinum record certification in the US for selling over two million copies.

In the early 1980s, Taylor briefly joined Beverly Glen Music before finding his home at Malaco Records in 1984 where he remained until his passing. Throughout his career, Johnnie Taylor left an indelible mark on the music scene with his powerful vocals and captivating performances.
