L7 is an American punk/alternative rock band hailing from Los Angeles. Formed in 1985, the band consists of Donita Sparks on vocals and guitar, Dee Plakas on drums, Suzi Gardner on guitar and vocals, and Jennifer Finch on bass. After disbanding in 2000, L7 reunited in 2015 to continue their musical journey.

Known for their fierce energy and raw sound, L7 has been a prominent figure in the punk and alternative rock scene. With powerful vocals and intense guitar riffs, they have captivated audiences worldwide. Their lineup has seen changes over the years with Gail Greenwood and Janis Tanaka also contributing as former bassists.

L7 should not be confused with L-Seven, a short-lived group that featured future members of Warrior Soul and Laughing Hyenas. Similar artists to L7 include 7 Year Bitch, Babes In Toyland, Hole, Courtney Love, Lunachicks, Veruca Salt, Green River, Mudhoney, Bikini Kill,and many more.

A multitude of rock music scenes populated the expanse of Los Angeles in 1989: hardcore punk, industrial goth, roots rock, and Sunset Strip hair metal, to name a few. L7 fit into none of them, creating their own unique blend of punk and hard, hooky rock loaded with humor and cultural commentary. Originally released in 1990, Smell the Magic is a a landmark of '90s feminist rock.
