Leyland Kirby

James Leyland Kirby is a British ambient / experimental musician and competitive darts player born in England on May 9, 1974. He grew up in England, and DJed raves in Germany in the 1990s. Eventually, he began to make music in 1996 under the alias V/VM. The project covered a wide range of styles, with plunderphonics being one of his main focuses.

Inspired by the ballroom scenes from "The Shining", *Leyland Kirby* later started The Caretaker, using '78s of ballroom music as his primary source. This project explored themes of mental decline as a symptom of neurodegenerative illness. Throughout the late 1990s and onwards, he has released numerous singles, albums, collections, and compilations under various aliases.

Based first in Stockport England and later in Berlin Germany before moving to Krakow Poland in 2012 to better focus on his music career where he continues to reside today. *Leyland Kirby* also founded V/Vm Test Records, Vukzid, and History Always Favours The Winners.
