Pete Townshend

Pete Townshend is a British guitarist, composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and author. Born on May 19, 1945 in Chiswick, West London, England, he is best known for his more-than 50-year association with the rock band The Who. As co-founder and leader of the band, Pete served as the principal songwriter, guitarist and vocalist.

In addition to his musical career with The Who, Pete Townshend established and owned a series of six home studios called Pete Townshend's Home Studio. In the early 1970s, he unveiled several companies under Eel Pie umbrella which included Goring Studios, Boathouse Studios/Oceanic Studios in Twickenham and Eel Pie Studios in Twickenham and Soho areas of London. However, he sold these studios in 2008.

Recognized for his contributions to music industry over the years, Pete Townshend received numerous awards including Brit Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1983. He was also honored by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Who in 1990. Furthermore, he won Grammy Awards twice; first in 1994 for Best Musical Show Album with Tommy: Original Cast Recording and then again in 2001 when he received Lifetime Achievement Award.
