A stellar cast of London's finest female jazz stars create a feel good summer hit that shines bright and beautifully. Nerija's vibrant and vivacious debut grabs you by the hand and pulls you from one party to the next. Strength in collaboration is the theme, as the septet skip you through a diversity of influence from cool jazz to dub to surf rock to bebop. A significant addition to the ever-growing tapestry that is London-bred jazz.

Nubya Garcia (tenor saxophone), Sheila Maurice-Grey (trumpet), Cassie Kinoshi (alto saxophone), Rosie Turton (trombone), Shirley Tetteh (guitar), Lizy Exell (drums) and Rio Kai (bass). Recorded in the boat-shaped confines of London’s legendary Soup Studios and produced by Kwes, the overarching goal with Blume was to simply capture the rawness, warmth, joy and the spirit of their relationship and performance. One of the recording aims was to channel the feel of Teo Macero and Stanley Tonkel’s records with Miles Davis during his Columbia years, thinking “forward” as they did but for this band, capturing the controlled chaos and frame it with a timeless elegance.

Sarathy Korwar is a US-born, Indian-raised, London-based drummer, percussionist, composer and bandleader. With his unique blend of jazz, hip-hop, and Indian classical music influences, Sarathy has carved out a distinctive sound that captivates audiences worldwide.

His music draws inspiration from artists such as Ill Considered, Sons Of Kemet, Binker and Moses, Shabaka and the Ancestors, Theon Cross, Nubya Garcia and many more. Sarathy's compositions are known for their intricate rhythms and mesmerizing melodies.

Whether performing solo or with his band, Sarathy's live shows are an immersive experience that transport listeners to new sonic landscapes. His innovative approach to music-making has earned him critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base.

Sarathy Korwar's debut album was released by Ninja Tune in 2016, and a triple live album of reworked spiritual jazz pieces with the UPAJ Collective was released by Gearbox in 2018. So he arrives on Leaf with a considerable pedigree, although that may not prepare you for More Arriving. Recorded in India and the UK over a period of two and half years, and featuring some incredible talent drawn from the South Asian diaspora, including rappers MC Mawali, Prabh Deep and Delhi Sultanate, and spoken word artists Zia Ahmed and Deepak Unnikrishnan. Outlining the experience of an Indian living in London, and that of South Asians living in India and abroad (in a variety of languages including English, Hindi, Marathi and Punjabi), the result is more politically charged than even we expected.

More Arriving draws on the nascent rap scenes of Mumbai and New Delhi, incorporating spoken word and Korwar’s own Indian classical and jazz instrumentation. This is a record born of confrontation; one for our confrontational times. Sarathy Korwar blasts out his own vibrant, pluralistic missive for the world to hear.
