Railroad Earth has composed music for never-released John Denver lyrics, with two songs set for release. While preparing handwritten lyrics of classic songs for display in an exhibit for the Grammy Museum, Denver's management came across notebooks containing poems and ideas for songs that were never completed during Denver's life. Todd Sheaffer, front man for Railroad Earth, set the lyrics to music.
Sheaffer shares his emotions about the collaboration saying, "What an honor to have been given the opportunity to shape these John Denver words into songs. Hopefully I've been able to convey some of the warmth and emotional bravery I found in them into the songs and hopefully we've been able to channel some of John's pure and open musical spirit into the recordings. It was fun to try, and it was a pleasure to go back and connect again with an artist I've known and loved for a long time."
The sessions also hold a cherished memory for Railroad Earth as they are the last recordings that were made with beloved bandmate and multi-instrumentalist Andy Goessling, an integral member of the band who passed away in 2018.
