Red House Painters

The Red House Painters were an American alternative rock group formed in 1989 in San Francisco, CA. Led by singer/songwriter Mark Kozelek, the band established themselves as one of the premier indie rock outfits of the mid-'90s. With songs ranging from light acoustic numbers to more powerful plugged-in tracks, they documented the dark and dirty side of human nature. Kozelek's ghostly voice aired myriad insecurities and emotional inconstancies over his quartet's skeletal backing.

Members of The Red House Painters included Mark Kozelek on vocals and guitar, Gordon Mack on guitar, Anthony Koutsos on drums, Jerry Vessel on bass, and Phil Carney on guitar.
