Sarah Vaughan

Sarah Vaughan, an American jazz singer, was born on March 27, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey. She earned the respect of her close-knit circle of musician friends as 'Sassy' and gained a worldwide fan base as 'The Divine One'. Sarah's talent shone through when she won a talent contest at Harlem's Apollo Theater in 1942 with her rendition of "Body And Soul". She went on to work with notable performers such as *Earl Hines*, *Billy Eckstine*, and *John Kirby*. From 1946 to 1957, she was accompanied by renowned pianists including *Jimmy Jones*, *Ronnell Bright*, and *Kirk Stuart*. Throughout her career, Sarah Vaughan established herself as one of the most respected jazz singers.
