Third Man Records is proud to release <i>PURE BEAUTY</i> by Queens, New York rap artist, designer, and painter SHIRT. 

PURE BEAUTY is an ode to the work of legendary artist John Baldessari and features cover artwork courtesy of Mr. Baldessari. The album has an overall focus on beauty in its simplest and rawest form—selected beats are recorded and re-recorded, stripped down and left blaring. Verses exist as rst and only takes. iPhone voice memos are dispersed throughout studio recordings; live conversations left unedited. PURE BEAUTY is a global vision, with SHIRT’s vocals recorded in Switzerland, beats coming in worldwide from Brooklyn to Australia. The album was mastered in the Ukraine. PURE BEAUTY was scheduled to drop as a self-released digital-only project in early November 2017, until Third Man Records entered the picture. In the 25th hour via Instagram DMs, SHIRT responded to our DM slide and let us listen to the record early. With no vinyl version planned, Third Man offered to sign SHIRT and release PURE BEAUTY digitally and on vinyl and the record was pulled from iTunes after a 10-hour silent release. While discussing concepts for album artwork, the project was again serendipitously blessed by a true Art God: John Baldessari, when he kindly offered his famous canvas work and book also entitled PURE BEAUTY to be used as the central theme in the album’s packaging. It’s a development that has our distribution team looking to independent record stores as well as art museum gift shops across the globe.
