Sting

Sting, born Gordon Sumner on October 2, 1951 in Wallsend, England, is a multi-talented artist known for his roles as a musician (bassist), composer, singer-songwriter, actor, author, and activist. In 1977, he formed the band *The Police* with Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers. The band achieved great success with five studio albums and received numerous awards including six Grammy Awards and two Brits. They were also inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Sting's career started with his involvement in various bands such as *The Phoenix Jazzmen*. It was during this time that he acquired the nickname "Sting" due to his black and yellow jersey resembling a bumblebee. He has since used this name almost exclusively. With an impressive solo career following the disbandment of The Police, Sting has received numerous accolades including 11 Grammy Awards, two Brits, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, four Oscar nominations and more.

Besides his musical achievements, Sting is also recognized for his activism work supporting human rights organizations like the Rainforest Fund and Amnesty International. Alongside his wife Trudie Styler,* he founded the Rainforest Fund in 1989 to protect rainforests worldwide along with their indigenous communities.
