Originally formed in Seattle in 1992, Sunny Day Real Estate featured Nate Mendel on bass (now doing time with the Foo Fighters), William Goldsmith on drum (original touring drummer for the foos'), Dan Hoerner on guitar and vocals and Jeremy Enigk on lead vocals and guitar. Although the term 'emo-core' was only stuck on this substrata after the fact, the music itself had at least some precedence in the pre-Fugazi Washington DC sounds of Embrace or Rites of Spring. But little post-punk music since then captured that immediacy like Diary, which remains a true classic years down the road.
