Rough Trade Essential

Influential British punk group from west and south London, active between 1976 and 1985. The Clash added catchy sloganistic socio-political lyrics to their brand of garage rock 'n' roll, exploring wider musical horizons than most of their contemporaries. They incorporated reggae, dub, rockabilly, hip hop, funk influences into their music and more.

The US saw the release of "Give 'Em Enough Rope" before their first album to coincide with the band's first transatlantic tour in early 1979. The band's debut LP "The Clash" was soon repackaged with an updated track list and the addition of a free 7" single. A year later they received worldwide acclaim with their classic double album "London Calling".

Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 (Performer), The Clash's classic line-up comprised Joe Strummer (vocals/guitar), Paul Simonon (bass), Mick Jones (guitar) and Nicky "Topper" Headon (drums).

When The Clash’s third studio album London Calling was released in the winter of 1979, it was clear that the band had made an instant classic, an era-defining masterpiece that stands as one of rock's all-time greatest albums.
