The Delfonics

The Delfonics were a Philly soul vocal group active from the late 60's until the mid 70's. They are considered one of the first "silky and sweet" soul groups, known for their soft and lush male vocal harmonies. Their biggest hits, including "La-La (Means I Love You)" and "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)", have been heavily sampled by hip hop artists such as Wu-Tang Clan, Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Boyz II Men, Missy Elliott, and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Led by William Hart as songwriter and lead vocalist, their music was written by the legendary Philadelphia team Stan & Bell aka Thom Bell and Stan Watson.

In the mid-80s, the main recording lineup of The Delfonics consisted of William Hart, Major Harris, and Frank Washington. However, they would often tour as two separate trios with additional members added to the lineup. Some of these members included Garfield Fleming, Freddie Ingleton, Johnny ("JJ") Johnson, Pat Palmer, Dr. Sallam Love, Eban Brown, and Johnney Smalls.

Similar artists to The Delfonics include The Chi-Lites, The Stylistics, The Intruders, The Moments, The Dramatics, Bloodstone, The Main Ingredient, Jerry Butler, Blue Magic, The Dells, Billy Stewart, Barbara Mason
