a re-release of 2004's 'deep cuts' - the second album from swedish duo the knife, consisting of the brother and sister olof and karin dreijer. the music on 'deep cuts' manages to be both disturbing and catchy at the same time. it think it would fit equally well in with an underground electro scene as with mainstream pop music. the band calls their music 'electronic pop punk' which seems like a fitting description. the knife combines edgy electronic sounds that instantly makes you think about electro acts like miss kittin or fischerspooner, with things that doesn't seem to fit in at all, like saxophone, steel drums and flute. together with the strange vocals of karin, that mostly reminds me of bjork's singing style and lovely bad english pronunciation but sometimes also appears pitched down to a male pitch, the total impression just sweeps you away.
