Willie Mitchell

Willie Mitchell was a renowned trumpeter, producer, composer, arranger, and bandleader. Born on March 23, 1928 in Ashland, Mississippi, he left an indelible mark on the music industry until his untimely death from a heart attack on January 5th, 2010 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Mitchell co-owned Hi Records from 1970 to 1979 and later founded the Waylo Records label in the 1980s. He also owned and operated the esteemed Royal Recording Studios in Memphis. His musical talents extended beyond his instrumental prowess as he contributed to various aspects of the industry.

As a brother of James Mitchell and stepfather of Archie Turner, Willie Mitchell's influence reached far and wide. His legacy lives on through his daughter Yvonne (aka Ollie Nightingale) who followed in her father's footsteps as a talented musician.
