Wooing latest ep offers up a cross between flowery psychedelic rock, indie with a dose of grunge available here on Cherry Red Clear Vinyl.
Rachel Trachtenburg, who previously played in a band with Julia Cumming(Sunflower Bean) now fronts her own band full of psychedelic indie pop/rock offers hauntingly beautiful vocals backed by echoing guitars: the urgency of underground 90s rock (i.e. Helium, Quasi) meets the psychedelic Syd Barrett sounds of the 60s.
Trachtenburg got her start playing and touring as the drummer in her family's Seattle-born group, The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players at the age of 6. Now she gives us Wooing, who are known for disguising dark lyrics over the backdrop of an upbeat and energetic, heavier sound, continues to explore a lyrical / sonic juxtaposition. “In Her Head," wanders deep inside one’s mind, giving into unwanted thoughts or the feeling of a spirit possession, and lead single, “Could Have Been,” pushes against that darkness, examining the disappointment of shallow friendships and ultimately learning when to move on from unhealthy ones. On ‘The Clouds’ Wooing worked with Kurt Feldman, who is well known for his work with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Chairlift, and Kristen Kontrol.
Wooing make music that is perfect for fans of 90’s greats like The Breeders and Sleater Kinney, as well as contemporary bands like Sunflower Bean and Charly Bliss.
