Ellie Goulding

An English singer and songwriter, Ellie Goulding was born on 30 December 1986 in Hereford, England. She gained recognition in 2010 when she topped the BBC's annual Sound of... poll and won the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards. Signing to Polydor Records in 2009, she released her first EP, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding.

Goulding's debut studio album, Lights, was released in 2010 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. With over 850,000 copies sold in the UK alone, it became a huge success. Her cover of Elton John's "Your Song" reached number two on the UK charts and she performed it at Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding reception at Buckingham Palace.

One of her most popular tracks from the album is "Lights", which was released in the US in March 2011. It climbed its way up to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 after thirty-three weeks charting. The single also received triple platinum certification by RIAA.

Goulding possesses a soprano vocal range and her musical style has been compared to that of Kate Nash, Meiko, Lykke Li, and Tracey Thorn.
