Hako Yamasaki
Hako Yamasaki is a Japanese folk singer-songwriter and actress, born on 18 May 1957 in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, Japan. She played a crucial role in the folk-boom of 1970s Japan and has released an impressive total of 22 albums from 1978 to 2011. Despite facing challenges when the cultural shift to city pop occurred in the 1980s, leading to underwhelming album sales and even homelessness at one point, Yamasaki persevered. In 1985, she signed with Polydor label and released four albums before taking a hiatus for three and a half years. Her comeback came in the form of her album SA・SU・GA in 1990. Today, Hako Yamasaki is recognized as both a pioneer in the creative boom of the '70s and as an influential figure in promoting feminism.
