The Ruts

The Ruts were a British punk rock band formed in London in 1977. The original lineup consisted of *Malcolm Owen* on vocals, *Dave Ruffy* on drums, *Vince Segs* on bass, and *Paul Fox* on guitar. Their first single 'In A Rut' gained attention and led to three sessions with BBC Radio One as well as a contract with Virgin. The success continued with their hit single 'Babylon's Burning', which reached the top ten. However, the band faced challenges when hard-line Skinheads disagreed with their anti-racist stance, resulting in violence at some gigs.

Tragically, Malcolm Owen passed away on July 14th, 1980 due to a heroin overdose. Despite this loss, the band carried on with Paul Fox taking over vocals under the new name Ruts DC.
