Machine Head is an American Groove Metal band hailing from Oakland, California. Formed in 1992 by ex-"Vio-Lence" member Robert Flynn, the band has faced numerous line-up changes and struggles with drug abuse throughout their career. Despite initial success with their first album, Machine Head received criticism for "selling out" on subsequent releases. After being dropped by Roadrunner Records in 2002, the band re-signed and enjoyed a stable line-up from 2003-2013. However, in 2018 both Dave McClain and Phil Demmel left the band after touring their album "Catharsis".

In 2019, to celebrate their 25th anniversary, Machine Head embarked on a tour where they performed their debut album "Burn My Eyes" in its entirety. Former members Logan Mader and Chris Kontos joined Robert Flynn and Jared Maceachern for this special occasion. The band also performed other MH songs during the tour with guitarist Wacław Kiełtyka (of Decapitated) and drummer Matt Alston (of Sanctorum).

Notably, Machine Head earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2007 for their album "The Blackening". The current members of the band include Robert Flynn on guitar and vocals since its inception, as well as Jared Maceachern on bass since 2013.

As one the most successful bands in the heavy metal scene Machine Head changed their musical style from their trash sound to melodies which incorporates rapping vocals. The Burning Red is an musical experiment with disco drums, crooning vocals and funky basslines. But their progressive sound can still be found in the tribal beat and guitar melodies of a song like The Blood, the Sweat, the Tears. It’s heavy sound is combined with subtle melodies and some groovy rhythms, but there are also rapping structures as in Desire to Fire. The album consists of 12 songs and is recorded at the Indigo Ranch Studios. It features new member Ahrue Luster on lead guitar, replacing Logan Mader. Machine Head sold over 3 million records worldwide. The band is one of the pioneering bands from the American heavy metal scene. The only original member, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Robb Flynn, is the man who puts all his inspiration into the heavy and melodic sounds.
