Madness are an English ska band from Camden Town, London, that formed in 1976. They were one of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s 2 Tone ska revival. With their most recognized line-up of seven members, they continue to perform and have achieved great success throughout their career.

Madness reached the peak of their success in the early to mid-1980s. Alongside UB40, they spent a remarkable 214 weeks on the UK singles charts during that decade. This record held for the most weeks spent by a group in the 1980s UK singles charts. Notably, Madness accomplished this feat within a shorter time period from 1980 to 1986.

In 1988, some members embarked on individual projects but eventually reunited with Madness to continue creating their unique brand of ska music.

BMG Rights Management is a multinational label that was established as a joint venture between Bertelsmann AG and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. It operates under the name BMG Chrysalis in the USA, UK, and Sweden, following its acquisition of Chrysalis plc. In 2012, Bertelsmann bought out Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.'s share of the company after an unsuccessful attempt to acquire EMI's recorded-music assets. While BMG Rights Management is the successor of the original Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), it has undergone significant changes and now operates independently with no connection to its former incarnation.

Mad Not Mad is the sixth studio album by Madness. Originally released in September 1985, it marked a departure from the band’s original line-up, with keyboard player Mike Barson taking a break from the group after an astonishingly successful run of five hit albums in as many years. Style-wise Mad Not Mad presented a more polished side of Madness and contains some of their most sophisticated and political song-writing. The first single, ‘Yesterday’s Men’ finds the band in a smooth, reflective mood, dealing with the dispossessed characters in and around Camden Town, and ’Sweetest Girl’ is a cover of the iconic Scritti Politti track, while ‘Uncle Sam’ is a classic Madness romp relayed through the narrative of a soldier’s experiences during World War II. Within a few weeks of its initial release, NME listed Mad Not Mad at number 55 on their list of the “100 Best Albums Of All Time” and it remains in its 2015 list of the “50 Best Albums Released in 1985”. This LP reissue is pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and features brand new liner notes by Chrissy Boy, Chas Smash, Woody and Lee Thompson.
