Moby is one of electronic music's most visible and talked-about figures. His career spans many years and musical genres, from early rave and acid-house releases to his current R&amp;B/blues/pop/techno sample cut-ups. Notable tracks include "Next Is The E", "Everytime You Touch Me", and "Go". He found pop success with the album "Play" in 1999, which spawned hits like "Honey" and "Porcelain". Moby is also known for his outspoken religious, dietary, and animal rights views.In addition to making music, Moby has founded two labels and co-founded restaurants in New York City and Los Angeles. He has written several books including memoirs, a photography book, and cookbooks. Before becoming a DJ, he worked as a golf caddy.

Founded in 1978 by [a=Daniel Miller], Mute (also known as [l36339]) releases various forms of music, with an emphasis on electronic and experimental pop. In May 2002 the label was acquired by the [l=EMI Group]. In 2010 Miller did an agreement with EMI to handle Mute as an independent label again, licensing the trademark from EMI via his company [l=Mute Artists Ltd.], but EMI kept the rights over Mute's back catalogue. After the EMI Group was dissolved, in 2012 [l206061] acquired [l636]'s back catalogue.

Branch offices exist in Germany ([l168349]) and in North America ([l36296]). 

Mute has spawned many regional and special-interest sublabels, some of which are still active. One offshoot, [l=Parallel Series], even became independent of [l636] Mute also operates Mute Bank Mail Order, which sells the label's merchandise directly to consumers. Mute Bank published two issues of [i]Mute Statement[/i], a softcover book that details the entire discography of the label and includes band profiles and photos of release artwork.

Another label strongly associated with Mute is [l=Toast Hawaii], run by [a=Depeche Mode]'s [a=Andrew Fletcher].

Moby is an ambitious man, both musically and philosophically, and that quality seeps into every aspect of 'Everything Is Wrong', from the wunderkind DJing that stretches the genre limits of techno to the angry, antiestablishment manifesto on the sleeve. The record's opening salvo of dancey club music sets the listener up for 'All That I Need Is to Be Loved', which, out of nowhere, bludgeons would-be club kids with tuneless, mad vocals and punked-out guitar solos. The same bait-and-switch formula repeats twice on the album at almost regular intervals in the industrial shriek of 'What Love' and the sudden, slow, and acoustic bent and folksy vocals of 'Into the Blue'. All three shifts are jarringly abrupt. However, dance-floor continuity is in Moby's blood, and he uses these songs as parts one, two, and three of the underlying rage that drives the record's concept. Without these three tracks, in fact, you'd have a moody yet convincingly cohesive dance-athon, bouncing between house breakbeats ('Feeling So Real', 'Bring Back My Happiness') and blissed-out trance ('God Moving Over the Face of the Waters'). Instead, Moby expresses his bewildered and desperate view of modern life by periodically yanking away the escape of blind, danceable ecstasy, using that discontinuity to express the eyes-wide-open ruminations of a furious idealist.</p>
